New venue, same intense court action for squash championships:

The Growthpoint SA Squash Nationals are back in the Mother City – this time in a new venue at the V&A Waterfront. The City of Cape Town is once again a partner of South Africa’s premier squash event.

Makers Landing, at the heart of Cape Town’s Cruise Terminal, will crown the 2025 U17 and U19 Growthpoint SA Squash Nationals champions later this week.

The V&A Waterfront’s food business incubator and events space will host the tournament for the first time – it was held at the mall’s centre court the previous four years.

The contenders in both age groups will have to get through a field which includes eight competitors and over 40 matches.

The first of those matches kicked off this morning, with 24 games scheduled for today across all age categories.

Played in all-glass court, the action will take place daily from 08:00 to 18:00.

The Squash South Africa sanctioned tournament is the pinnacle event in the sport’s calendar with competitors having qualified from highly contested regional events.

Winners of the competition will represent South Africa at international tournaments.

The City of Cape Town has been a partner of the SA Squash Nationals since 2021.

‘It has been both a privilege and a point of pride for the City to host what is the peak event on the squash calendar in South Africa, and we are pleased that we get to keep the tournament in Cape Town. Council recently approved a further three years of support for the tournament. This is part of the City’s contribution to supporting events that provide a platform to countless emerging talent in the country while also elevating a sport on the rise. I urge residents and visitors to head down to Makers Landing to witness the highest level of skill on display. You will not be disappointed,’ said Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.

The City’s renewed partnership with the SA Squash Nationals will run until 2027.

The U17 and U19 tournament is on until Sunday, 17 August 2025.

Entry is free for spectators. For those who are not able to attend in person, games will be live streamed on the Squash South Africa Facebook page.

The current tournament will be followed by the Growthpoint Senior Nationals and U15 Championships, also set to take place at Makers Landing from 28 to 30 August.
